Alec had animated Shot 4 for SPLAY, so it was then passed over to me to light and composite. Phil had nailed the final look of the film in an After Effects test, so this will be used as a template for future composites. Before rendering an entire clip, I have worked on a single still:

There are some elements of the shot which work, such as the heavy contrast and the soft haze surrounding the character. I have also incorporated a still image of the dust footage we captured and then applied a soft light blending mode.

I changed the Maya camera settings in the second image, so that the aspect ratio would be 2:35 and the Film Gate set to Anamorphic (which is supposed to be the right one) and this changed the composition of the shot altogether. There are some elements in this image which I like, such as more detail on the ground, and more rays within the spotlight itself. The first image has a slightly better composition, yet the spotlight is cut off in the frame. The intensity of the light may be too intense but there is less grayscale value.
